research overview

  • Dr. Luo’s research interests include statistical genetics and genomics, genetic epidemiology, functional data analysis and high-dimensional data reduction. She is specifically interested in developing statistical methods in the areas of gene- and pathway- based genome-wide association studies, integrative analyses of different types of genetic alterations and environmental perturbations involved in complex diseases, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) association analyses utilizing functional data analysis techniques. Currently she is working with Drs. Stidley and Kang on developing statistical methods for NGS studies to detect the association of rare genetic variants with disease or quantitative traits while controlling for other confounding factors including population stratification. Dr. Luo collaborates with Drs. Berwick, Ness, and Cook in identification of genetic factors that are associated with risk and survival of cancer, including melanoma, leukemia, adenoid cystic carcinoma and ovarian cancer.
