I am interested in the tumor-suppressing role that estrogen receptor beta (ESR2) plays in many types of cancer, especially prostatic adenocarcinoma. Currently I am working with collaborators in the College of of Pharmacy and the Departments of Surgery and Medicine, investigating the dihydrotestosterone metabolite and ESR2 ligand 3-beta androstanediol, determining what activity it has in promoting differentiation and inhibiting proliferation in numerous prostate cancer cell lines. We are additionally studying the association of polymorphisms within genes encoding steroid receptors and important enzymes that control the flux of steroid metabolites with the risk for early onset and advanced prostate cancer.
