Dr. Ballejos is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and is the Assistant Dean for Admissions at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine Office of Admissions. She holds a national leadership position as the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Student Affairs (GSA) Committee on Student Diversity Affairs liaison to the GSA Committee on Admissions. She is also the Co-Chair for both the School of Medicine Committee on Admissions and the Combined Baccalaureate/Medical Degree Program (BA/MD) Committee on Admissions. Dr. Ballejos is an expert in holistic admissions in medical schools and a passionate student admissions, diversity and inclusion advocate. She has been at the forefront of leading the admissions efforts to recruit, enroll, graduate, support and retain a diverse group of students coming from New Mexico. She has worked on many innovative efforts to promote diversity and create opportunities to address the physician workforce supply of underrepresented minorities.
