Bachefor, Sally Associate Professor - Retired
Dr. Sally Bachofer is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has practiced in community and academic settings. Her educational focus has been integrating population/community health into the medical school and residency curricula. An important aspect of this educational effort has been to create teaching opportunities and curricula that instill an appreciation for the incorporation of the social determinants of health into the daily practice of medicine.
She is a founding faculty member of the Family Medical Home model for the FOCUS Early Intervention Program. This program works with families of children under the age of three years who are struggling with adverse social situations such as chronic mental illness, substance use, violence, poverty and incarceration. The clinical component is integrated into the continuity clinical experience for FM residents which provides the opportunity to train future family physicians in an interdisciplinary approach to primary care and incorporate Medication Assisted Treatment of Substance Use Disorders. In her residency faculty role, she leads the Population Health & Scholarship curriculum and shares her passion for incorporating advocacy and policy into the role of family physicians.
