Jones, John R. Assistant Professor

Positions

Dr. Jones is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of New Mexico in 1983, and completed a residency in Family Medicine at North Colorado Medical Center at Greeley,Colorado in 1986. He then spent 25 years in private Family Medicine practice in Alamogordo , New Mexico. During that time, he was an active Volunteer Adjunct Faculty member and precepted over 37 first, third and fourth year medical students as part of the Schools Preceptorship program. Dr. Jones joined the Family Medicine faculty in June 2011. His primary clinical responsibilities are at the Northeast Heights Clinic. This is where his educational expertise became event in ambulatory surgical procedures. He has been instrumental in creating the new curriculum in ambulatory procedures for the Family Medicine Residency and now shares his extensive knowledge with the Family Medicine residents at Northeast Heights, Southeast Heights, and North Valley Clinics. He is also part of the residences inpatient attending team where he shares his diverse knowledge in inpatient medicine and offers his perspective on care of the patient in a rural New Mexico community.
