John Durkin, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at The University of New Mexico. He has a special interest and expertise in skin cancer and specifically pigmented lesions and melanoma. His research interests include non-invasive imaging such as reflective confocal microscopy for the detection of skin cancers and other skin pathology. He has a background in computer engineering, image processing, and computer vision and is interested in automated or semi-automated image analysis techniques such as deep learning algorithms applied to skin imaging. Dr. Durkin also is interested in health disparities and gaps in access to skin care, especially in New Mexico, and how this relates to patient outcomes. Dr. Durkin is also interested in any phase clinical trials for dermatologic therapeutics.
