Steven Adelsheim, MD, FAACAP, is the Director of the University of New Mexico Psychiatry Department's Center for Rural and Community Behavioral Health (CRCBH). He is a child psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry, Family & Community Medicine, and Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center, where he has been on the faculty since 1994. Dr. Adelsheim also serves as the Director of the New Mexico Consortium for Behavioral Health Training and Research (CBHTR), a state-university partnership focused on services research efforts, training in best practices, and policy development. As a consultant to the New Mexico Behavioral Health Purchasing Collaborative, Dr. Adelsheim has been a partner in developing state rural mental health policy with a focus on mental health systems, including particular interests in supporting tribal programs, telebehavioral health, prodromal research, school mental health, and youth suicide prevention. Dr. Adelsheim has been involved in early detection and intervention programs for many years, including most recently as the principle investigator of both the EARLY and RAISE programs at UNM.
