Schluter, Whitny Doyle Lecturer I

Whitny Schluter, MSN, RN, FNP-BC is a family nurse practitioner and a clinician educator-Lecturer 1 at the UNM College of Nursing. She joined the faculty in 2019 after 8 years in clinical practice with the goal of helping to shape the future of primary care in New Mexico. She currently teaches foundational and adult health courses in the advanced practice programs.

Her advanced practice career has focused on internal medicine and women’s health. Schluter’s clinical interests include full scope primary care for all women, with a particular focus on preventive services, contraception and colposcopy. She believes in team-based, outcomes-focused, integrated primary care and hopes to investigate different educational opportunities, practice models and funding mechanisms that might support a thriving primary care system in New Mexico.

Schluter has enjoyed a rich background in education, including a previous appointment in the undergraduate nursing program at Central New Mexico Community College and a clinical education role with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She has precepted a wide variety of nursing and medical students in the clinical setting throughout her nursing and advanced practice careers. She particularly enjoys working with students from non-traditional backgrounds.

Schluter’s community involvement has included work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as a Board of Directors appointment for CLNKids.

As an alumna from The University of New Mexico, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration in 2011 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2006.
