research overview

  • Dr. Myers came to UNM in 2000 and has been a biostatistician in the Division since 2005. He was promoted to Associate Research Professor in 2011. His main collaborations are with researchers in Nephrology, the NM HPV Pap Registry (NMHPVPR), the Clinical and Translational Science Center and with those interested in how environmental and genetic factors are associated with morbidity and mortality. Working with a nationwide, non-profit hemodialysis provider he studies treatment and patient characteristics that may influence risk of hospitalizations and mortality. The NMHPVPR is a population-based cervical screening registry using electronic medical records of screening, diagnosis, and treatment delivered in the State.  He is currently studying how cervical screening intervals change in response to practice recommendations. He also works on two studies of air quality, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and child health that are being conducted in El  Paso, TX, and in Quito, Ecuador.  The El Paso study also includes genetic factors.  Another environmental study underway will study relationships between melanoma, arsenic, and UV in NM.
