I am most interested in quality improvement processes to improve the care for our Veterans. Although I enjoy focusing on vascular surgery problems, I seek out challenges that are more universal to surgical care in general. My mentors always emphasized to me the importance of looking at the small but frequent opportunities for improvement that are often ignored or put off as a nuisance rather than looking to solve the grandiose problems our egos often find appealing such as “curing atherosclerosis.” As such, my research focus has been on investigating the common problems all surgeons face in daily practice rather than on one specific disease process or pathology.
