- Pain Management & Rehabilitation Professor
Dr. Horn joined the faculty of UNM Division of PM&R in July 2018, having been program director for the DMC/Wayne State University PM&R residency program in Detroit for 12 years. He had also been Chair of the Department of PM&R at Wayne State. Dr. Horn attended Northwestern University School of Medicine and then completed his residency in PM&R at the University of Washington in 1981, and then the first recognized fellowship in Brain Injury Rehabilitation at Santa Clara Medical Center in 1982. He has extensive publications, presentations and awards related to Brain Injury Medicine, but has also been involved in Spinal Cord Injury research and clinical work. In addition to his administrative role for the residency program and as Chief Academic Officer for the Lovelace/UNM Rehabilitation Program, he will be providing outpatient clinical services (and residency rotations) for people with central nervous system disorders and consultative services at UNM Hospital.
Though he is considered a “Master Clinician” and derives a great deal of satisfaction from patient care, he considers his greatest professional honor to have participated as a mentor and educator to former residents and students many of whom have achieved national prominence in the specialty.
Wellness pursuits: Dr. Horn enjoys walking, light hiking, bicycling and playing with his dogs. He is also a very good cook and mixologist and is devoted to his vegetarian wife though he himself is an omnivore (they have a mixed marriage). Dr. Horn also relaxes by playing the Kalimba.
