Elaine Thomas, MD has particular interest in HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. She received her MD as well as residency and ID fellowship training at University of Washington. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. She has a contract with New Mexico Department of Health to provide clinical care, education, and statewide liaison and support regarding sexually transmitted diseases. Medical students, residents, ID fellows, and others receive clinical education in the Department of Health STD clinic through this program.
Outcomes, provider education, and quality improvement in HIV and STD
Dr. Thomas received a CDC project contract 1996-2002 to promote development of STD education, which was the basis for her ongoing collaboration with New Mexico Department of Health to improve STD care statewide by educating trainees at all levels and providing education, liaison and advice to providers in practice. She provides didactic and clinical education to trainees at all levels at UNM HSC in general infectious disease, HIV and STD, and serves on the Block Committee and as a tutorial leader for the Phase I medical students’ Infectious Disease Block. She is a facilitator for Project ECHO’s HIV Telemedicine weekly clinic. She completed training on medical education through UNM HSC’s Medical Education Scholars program.
