Dr. Hernandez’s research has primarily focused on military service members. Dr. Hernandez has examined perceptions of stigma and barriers to accessing mental health services, as well as, resilience and stress. He is currently researching the effectiveness of an intervention on increasing resilience in U.S. Air Force Healthcare personnel. He has also completed research focused on gaining a deeper understanding of hemodialysis patients’ quality of life. Dr. Hernandez was commissioned as an officer in the Army Reserve in 1997 and continues his service in the Air Force Reserve. His areas of clinical experience include intensive care, medical/surgical, trauma, and telemetry nursing. Dr. Hernandez received his Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from UNM in 2012 and his Master of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
