I have a >30 year clinical anesthesia practice history with a broad background, including general OR, Regional, Pediatrics, Cardiac, Neurosurgical, and Pain Management. I have served in administrative positions in private practice as Anesthesia Dept. Chair, Chairman of the Board of a large Practice Management organization and did a stint as a VA Anesthesia Service Chief. I am now Director of the UNM-Health Sciences Center BATCAVE Simulation Center. My academic and research interests have been in the areas of: Simulation-based training and debriefing, Simulation curriculum development, Patient safety and quality improvement, Interprofessional communications, Critical incident management and simulation-based performance assessment. I am also interested the use of emergency manuals/checklists for critical incidents and the development of strategies to improve decision-making and avoid common hazardous attitude errors.
