The Erwin W. Lewis, MD, Awards are named in memory of Erwin W. Lewis, a 1977 School of Medicine graduate and much admired faculty member who advocated for a diverse student body and worked to create a culturally competent curriculum. Each year the graduating medical students select from 1,021 full-time faculty members and 535 residents the clinical and basic science faculty members and resident who have contributed substantially to their educational experience.
