Dr. Afek is an Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the UNM School of Medicine. He received his MD degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and completed his Family Medicine residency at Forbes Family Medicine in Pennsylvania. He worked for 13 years at a rural community health center near Tucson, Arizona through the National Health Service Corps, and has been a clinical faculty member at the University of Arizona. He currently sees patients at UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center where he serves as the Medical Director of Ambulatory Services, and precepts Family Medicine residents at the North Valley and Southeast Heights Clinics, as well as works with UNM Medical Students. He enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and playing with his grandchildren, as well as fitness and amateur natural bodybuilding.
