Positions

My laboratory is interested in understanding the molecular processes that underlie tissue damage in multiple sclerosis (MS), the most common demyelinating disease of the central nervous system in humans. Currently, our efforts are devoted towards elucidating the role of ferroptosis in the pathophysiology of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a widely used animal model of MS. Other studies involve the characterization of core proteasomes and their activators/inhibitors in EAE and MS, and of Nrf1/Nrf2 signaling pathways in demyelinating disorders. To conduct the above studies, we employ animal models of acute, relapsing/remitting and chronic MS, several cell culture systems and post-mortem brain specimens from MS patients.
