Tomedi, Angelo Associate Professor-Retired

Positions

Dr. Angelo Tomedi is a Visiting Associate Professor in the University of New Mexico Department of Family and Community Medicine. His teaching site is the UNM Southeast Heights Clinic. Dr. Tomedi received his MD degree from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1975. He completed a residency and became Board certified in Family Medicine in 1981.

In addition to teaching and clinical care as a Family Medicine clinician for the UNM School of Medicine, Dr. Tomedi has been involved in health care projects and teaching in Latin America and Africa. His experience in international health began more than 25 years ago with his work with the Rarámuri (Tarahumara) indigenous tribe of Chihuahua, Mexico. He served for ten years as the medical director of a non-profit organization that provided medical services and supported training for community health workers in Mexico and Guatemala. He is a founder and current President of Global Health Partnerships, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide humanitarian aid and health care in Kenya. He has arranged and led teams of health care professionals, medical students, and residents, to Kenya to provide primary health care and to train local community health workers, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and local health centers. He is the author of several peer-reviewed publications on maternal and child health in rural Kenya.
